The Hotel Finca Son Roig is located close to Porreres in a rural setting. There are just 12 rooms. Palma is approximately 30 minutes away and the beaches on the East coast are approximately 40 minutes away. One of the best beaches on the island is Es Trenc which is on the South coast and is about 30 minutes away.
The hotel was originally a farm house but in 2005 it underwent a complete renovation. Much of the original stonework exists and looks brand spanking new having been sand blasted clean. It very much feels like a modern hotel but with a traditional style. A large reception area with high ceilings and on the right a staircase leading up to most of the bedrooms. Off to the left is a small lounge area with TV and a small library. There are some rooms away from the main building one of which has also been adapted for wheelchair use.
One of the residents who had just left the week before we visited wrote in the guest book that they felt as if they were staying in their own private country residence.. and that’s the whole idea. Most of the 12 bedrooms have a balcony or terrace, but all are light, furnished to a high standard and are individually styled. WiFi is available in most areas of the hotel, however with the original building walls being so thick even modern day WiFi can’t be guaranteed to penetrate the Mallorquian stone ! However the public areas should have good WiFi access.
The swimming pool is a good size and is surrounded by lemon trees, and overlooks the countryside. There is a Sauna, Turkish bath and small gym. The manager, Gabriela, told us that very few guests use the gym as once they arrive they either relax completely or decide to run around the beautiful countryside. The hotel can arrange for an Ayurveda professional to visit and you can enrol in a Yoga course. Walking routes, horse riding, cycling, trekking, golf and water sport activities are all available within approx. 20 minutes drive.
The local village of Porreres is close by and thankfully bypassed by 99% of tourists that arrive on the island. So this is the opportunity to brush up on your Spanish, eat like a local and drink the local wine (there is a local cellar close to the hotel). Villafranca and Manacor are alos close by (approx. 8hm). If you don’t fancy venturing out then the hotel has it’s own restaurant, Romani, which offers local cuisine and wine.
